Positives and Negatives of Teaching in a Technology World

    Is the internet helping? When we think about the internet and the benefit we get from using it, do we really sit back and focus in on if it actually helping our youth of today, or hurting them? "Most teenagers say the Internet’s ability to help them with their schoolwork and to help them learn new things is one of its best features." (Simon, 2001) You could definitely look at technology as a positive or a negative for that exact statement used above. For example, if students are using the technology platforms correctly and efficiently, of course it is a helpful tool. But, for the small percentage of students who abuse the internet tools and do not properly use it correctly, makes it hard for educators to lean in on that.    This survey was taken by 753 students in the months of November-December.   From paper, pencil, and textbooks, to Chromebooks and smart boards the world of education has changed drastically. Some people would say it was for better, others aren't entirely sure how to keep up with the growing opportunities technology is bringing them. " The internet and digital tools also play a key role in classroom preparation and professional networking." (Purcell,2013).  The Positives With anything in life, there are positive outcomes and negatives ones as well. When you look at it from a different lens you may be able to see it in a way you never thought. "Digital tools are being used by students to conduct research, download and submit assignments, edit work, and collaborate with each other."
